EMI released a super deluxe box set of Whitesnake’s Sunburst Years. Collecting together all studio and live albums, two previously unreleased BBC concerts, a limited 7”, DVD and a 90-page book with new interviews and previously unseen photos and rare memorabilia, all overseen by David Coverdale. Following the split of Deep Purple, after three years as their lead singer David Coverdale released two solo albums: ‘Whitesnake’ (1977) and ‘Northwinds’ (1978), both sowing the seeds for what would eventually become Whitesnake. Whitesnake originally formed in March 1978 to promote the release of ‘Northwinds’, but eventually releasing the 4-track 7” ‘Snakebite EP’ in June of that year, followed by the full-length debut ‘Trouble’ before the end of 1978. Jon Lord and Ian Paice, both founder members of Deep Purple, would augment the line-up, helping steer the band close to the top of the charts in 1981 (only kept off the top spot Adam & The Ants’ ‘Kings Of The Wild Frontier’). By the end of 1982 with the release of “Saints & Sinners”, the band had released five studio albums, two live albums and an EP. These earlier, ‘bluesier’ recordings the band made before signing to Geffen (for ‘Slide It In’ (1984) and the 8 million-selling ‘1987’, including the US no.1 ‘Here I Go Again’), were from a band certainly big enough to sell out Hammersmith Odeon four nights in a row, or headline 1983’s Donington Monsters Of Rock festival, though a very different beast to the world conquering ‘1987’ version of the band. Box ‘O’ Snakes – The Sunburst Years 1978 – 1982 is an 11-disc set – including the original 1982 version of ‘Here I Go Again’ – featuring nine audio CDs, a DVD and a 7” white vinyl replica of the ‘Snakebite EP’, the very first release from Whitesnake, remastered versions of the five studio albums and two live albums Whitesnake released from 1978-1982, plus two previously unreleased live albums recorded for the BBC at the 1979 & 1980 Reading Festivals. The DVD features 10 promo videos, four rare BBC TV performances and a previously unreleased US live show filmed in 1980. The release is housed in a lift-off-lid box and also contains a 90-page hardback book featuring an introduction from Classic Rock magazine’s Geoff Barton, plus a new 10,000 word interview with David Coverdale and Bernie Marsden, with many unpublished photos and rare memorabilia from Marden’s personal collection, as well as a large colour poster.

In March 2006, the Pretenders released their first-ever box set, Pirate Radio, via Rhino. The five-disc package included over five hours of music plus a DVD of rare performances. Pirate Radio, the comprehensive, long overdue Pretenders box set, helps support that case. Spread out over four CDs are studio recordings, demos, live material, and alternate versions recorded between 1979 and 2005. In addition to the obvious inclusions ("Brass in Pocket", "Back on the Chain Gang"), the full range of the Pretenders is represented, from rip-it-up rockers ("Precious") to gorgeous balladry ("2000 Miles"). And, finally, a bonus DVD of television appearances makes the case complete.

Bee Gees – Mythology: The 50th Anniversary Collection (4CD Box Set) (2010) [FLAC]

The Bee Gees are a musical group that was originally made up of three brothers: Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb. The trio was successful for most of their 40-plus years of recording music, but they had two distinct periods of exceptional success: as a harmonic "soft rock" act in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and as a foremost act of the disco music era in the late 1970s. The group sang three-part tight harmonies that were instantly recognisable; Robin’s clear vibrato lead was a hallmark of their earlier hits, while Barry’s R&B falsetto became their signature sound during the late 1970s and 1980s. The brothers co-wrote all of their own hits, as well as writing and producing several major hits for other artists. Mythology is a box set compilation of recordings by the Gibb Brothers, mostly performed as The Bee Gees, arranged in a four disc set each highlighting each Gibb brother.
Mythology contains four discs housed in a 5 3/4" X 7 5/8" X 7/16" box, with each disc spotlighting a different Gibb brother, including one disc dedicated to Andy. The songs were chosen by Barry, Robin, Maurice’s widow Yvonne (and their children Adam and Samantha), and Andy’s daughter Peta.
Mythology also features a collection of family photos, many never-before published, along with tributes from artists such as George Martin, Brian Wilson, Elton John, Graham Nash, and the band’s longtime manager Robert Stigwood. Spanning the Bee Gees’ five-decade career, the set’s 81 tracks touch on several of the group’s best-known hits.
The final disc spotlights Andy Gibb, who worked with his brothers throughout his career, before his death in 1988 at the age of 30. Notably, Andy’s first 3 singles all went to #1 in the U.S., a feat that had never been accomplished before. Mythology also marks the debut of "Arrow Through The Heart," a song Andy recorded shortly before his death that was intended for a comeback album.

The Psychedelic Furs are an English alernative rock band founded in 1977. Led by singer Richard Butler and his brother Tim on bass guitar, the Psychedelic Furs are one of the many acts spawned from the British post-punk scene. Their music went through several phases, from an initially austere art rock sound, later touching on new wave and hard rock. The Psychedelic Furs went on hiatus in 1991, and the Butler brothers formed a new band called Love Spit Love. The Psychedelic Furs later regrouped in 2001 and continue to perform around the world. This set features the albums Psychedelic Furs (1980), Talk Talk Talk (1981), Forever Now (1982), Mirror Moves (1984) and Midnight To Midnight (1987).
